The Blouse

Every working girl needs a wardrobe of blouses…right?

My mom has tried to teach me the necessity of a blouse since I was a jeuene fille — French seems appropriate considering the “blouse concept” is completely foreign to me — but, in my 24 years on this planet, I’ve only recently grasped the concept.

I’ve been able to define the word blouse since kindergarten, I could say it in French and Spanish since Fifth grade, but never have I worn them. To be honest, my idea of a blouse is a boring button-down shirt that either gapes on my cleavage but fits my torso or hangs off my body like a poncho on a Jack Skellington.

Instead of dealing with either of the aforementioned blouse faux pas, BB-me (Before Blouse-me) stuck with a simple, cotton t-shirt or an oversized, chunky sweater. Now, I’m tired of being the only girl on the professional playground without at least a couple of silky, career-chic tops, so off I went to LOFT in search of something that fit my personality, but was work-appropriate.

How did I do? I’m partial to stripes and polka dots, so the short-sleeve top brightens my day, and the bracelet-length blouse has just the right amount of laze to it — a girl has to maintained her reputation for being perfectly disheveled!

How often are blouses on your shopping list?
